Ingredients
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 whole egg
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 3-3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 3-4 Tbsp. milk (whole or reduced fat)
- Decorative candies or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add in the molasses, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and baking soda. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients.
- Finally, add the flour a little at a time until the dough forms.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out gingerbread men shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are firm, then allow to cool on a wire rack.
- To make the frosting, mix powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk in a bowl until smooth.
- Decorate the cooled cookies with the frosting and add decorative candies or sprinkles as desired.
Notes
Tip: Chill the dough for about 30 minutes before rolling it out to make it easier to handle.
