Description

A traditional Mexican breakfast porridge made with old-fashioned oats, warming spices, and creamy evaporated milk. This comforting, spiced oatmeal delivers a rich and hearty start to your day.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups water
1-2 cinnamon sticks (or 1 tsp ground cinnamon)
Dash salt
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup evaporated milk
¼ cup honey (to taste)
1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Bring water to a boil in a medium pot
Add cinnamon sticks and a dash of salt, reduce heat to medium
Add oats, stir occasionally as they thicken
Simmer 5 minutes until tender
Stir in evaporated milk until smooth
Cook 2-3 minutes longer until desired consistency
Remove cinnamon sticks if used
Stir in honey and vanilla extract
Serve warm

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use coconut milk instead of evaporated milk
Ground cinnamon works as a substitute (1 tsp) if whole sticks aren’t available
Adjust sweetener to taste
