Description

A vibrant, slightly tart sauce made from wild huckleberries, sweetened with natural sugar and brightened with lemon juice. Perfect as a topping or condiment for breakfasts, meats, or desserts.


Ingredients

2 cups huckleberries (fresh or frozen)
? cup sugar
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice


Instructions

Rinse and prepare huckleberries.
Combine berries, sugar, water, and lemon juice in a pot.
Bring to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce heat and simmer 5-7 minutes until berries soften and juice thickens.
Mash berries with a masher or spoon.
Cool to room temperature, then chill at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Frozen berries can be used without thawing.
Substitute blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries if unavailable.
Use coconut sugar or maple syrup for alternative sweetness.
Store in airtight container up to 5 days in refrigerator.
