Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 prepared pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh herbs (like chives or parsley) (for added flavor, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Boil the chopped potatoes in a pot of salted water until they are tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and transfer them to a mixing bowl.
- Add butter and milk to the potatoes and mash until smooth. Stir in the shredded cheese, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- If using, mix in fresh herbs for added flavor.
- Roll out your pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
- Spoon the mashed potato mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.
- Cover the pie with another layer of pie crust or leave it open-faced, as you like.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
Notes
