Description

Delightful and chewy gingerbread cookies perfect for the holiday season, ideal for gifting and decorating with family and friends.


Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Royal icing for decoration
  • Sprinkles (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until fluffy. Then mix in the egg, molasses, and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Divide the dough into two halves, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 120 minutes or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  7. Place on baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Let cool and decorate with royal icing and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

To keep cookies fresh, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Can freeze unbaked dough or baked cookies.
