Description

A luscious Valentine’s Heart Red Velvet Cake with smooth cream cheese frosting, perfect for expressing love.

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh strawberries (optional)
  • Valentine sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a heart-shaped cake pan or two 8-inch round pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in the buttermilk and red food coloring until evenly combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the batter is smooth.
  7. Stir in the vinegar gently.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth out the top.
  9. Bake for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  11. To make the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth, then gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla.
  12. Frost the cooled cake generously and decorate as desired. Slice and serve.

Notes

Cool the cake completely before frosting to prevent melting. Use gel food coloring for the best color.
