Description

A rich and delightful cake perfect for celebrating love on Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust them lightly with flour to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together to ensure an even mixture, then set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting with one-third of the dry mixture followed by half of the milk, and ending with the last of the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans, dividing it equally.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.

Notes

For best results, ensure your eggs and butter are at room temperature. Sift dry ingredients to avoid clumps.
