Description
A rich and delightful cake perfect for celebrating love on Valentine’s Day.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and dust them lightly with flour to prevent sticking.
- In a medium bowl, blend the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together to ensure an even mixture, then set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture, starting with one-third of the dry mixture followed by half of the milk, and ending with the last of the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans, dividing it equally.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
