Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup molasses
- Royal icing (for decorating)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter with the brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and molasses until thoroughly combined.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Roll out the dough onto a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
- Transfer the heart-shaped cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.
Notes
Chill the dough if it’s too sticky and get creative with royal icing colors for a festive touch.
