Description

Delightful heart-shaped cookies infused with warm spices, perfect for gifting on Valentine’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • Royal icing (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter with the brown and granulated sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and molasses until thoroughly combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the flour mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  7. Transfer the heart-shaped cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating with royal icing.

Notes

Chill the dough if it’s too sticky and get creative with royal icing colors for a festive touch.
