Description

A cozy comfort food fix combining tender beef, flavorful gravy, and comforting mashed potatoes served on bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 piece Beef Roast (chuck or round cuts)
  • 1 medium Onion (sliced)
  • 4 cups Beef Broth (low-sodium recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Cold Water
  • 6 slices Bread (white or Texas toast)
  • 4 cups Mashed Potatoes (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the beef roast and pat it dry. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Place sliced onions at the bottom of the slow cooker and add the seasoned beef on top.
  3. Mix the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, and black pepper in a bowl.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and onions.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8–10 hours or high for 4–6 hours.
  6. Once cooked, remove the roast and mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry. Stir into the liquid and cook on high for 15–30 minutes to thicken.
  7. Slice or shred the beef, serve over bread with mashed potatoes, and ladle the gravy over the top.

Notes

For best results, select cuts of beef that become tender with slow cooking, such as chuck or round. Consider searing the beef before cooking for extra flavor.
