Description
A quick and easy dish combining tender chicken, fresh broccoli, and flavorful sesame sauce, served over rice, perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch, mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
- 2 cups cooked white rice
- 2 cups broccoli florets, steamed
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chicken broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a simmer, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
- Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce.
- To assemble the bowls, divide the cooked rice among bowls. Top with sesame chicken and steamed broccoli.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve immediately.
Notes
For even browning of the chicken, ensure the pan is heated well before adding the chicken and avoid overcrowding the pan. Serve with a side of steamed edamame for a complete meal.
