Ingredients
- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups milk
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish.
- In a bowl, mix together the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Pour half of this mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese over the mixture.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For best texture, use Russets or Yukon Gold potatoes. Customize with different cheeses or add sautéed onions for extra flavor.
