Ingredients
- 2 cups yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter (or vegan option)
- 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for vegetarian option)
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (or Italian seasoning)
- 1 package crescent roll dough
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese (or any melting cheese)
Instructions
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions.
- Cook the onions for about 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently, until they are golden brown and caramelized.
- Add the beef broth and white vinegar to the onions. Stir well and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from heat and mix in the fresh thyme leaves. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Unroll the crescent roll dough and cut it into squares.
- Place a spoonful of the onion mixture and a bit of Gruyère cheese in the center of each square.
- Fold the corners of the dough over the filling to create small bites and seal them.
- Place the bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Notes
Let the onion mixture cool before filling the dough to prevent sogginess. Feel free to adjust the cheese to your liking.
