Description

A classic and vibrant dessert featuring rich flavors and a creamy frosting, perfect for special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and mix until creamy.
  9. Once cakes are cooled, layer them with cream cheese frosting in between and on top.
  10. Decorate as desired and serve.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Don’t skip the vinegar for moisture.
