Ingredients
- 1 cup quark
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk or water
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the quark, egg, sugar, milk or water, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined; the batter will be thick.
- Let the batter rest for 10 minutes.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- When the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the batter into the skillet. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Cook the fritters for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with toppings like fresh fruit, maple syrup, or powdered sugar.
Notes
Use fresh quark and check expiration dates for other ingredients. Don’t overmix the batter for light fritters.
