Description

A delightful vegetarian burger featuring crunchy and spicy potato patties served in soft buns.

Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes (boiled, peeled and mashed)
  • 1 white bread slice (soaked in water or ½ cup breadcrumbs)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chat masala
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 green chili (chopped, optional)
  • ¼ cup chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander (cilantro leaves)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (for coating)
  • Oil (for shallow frying)
  • 4 brioche or regular burger buns (split)
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup chili mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sliced onions
  • 1 large ripe tomato (thinly sliced)
  • French fries (to serve)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, soaked bread or breadcrumbs, turmeric, cumin, chat masala, garam masala, red chili powder, chopped green chili (if using), chopped onions, and coriander. Mix well until all ingredients come together.
  2. Shape the mixture into round patties and roll each patty in breadcrumbs to coat them evenly.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the coated patties until golden brown and crispy on both sides. Set aside on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
  4. In the same pan, add butter to toast the split burger buns until soft and lightly browned.
  5. Assemble the burger by spreading chili mayonnaise on the bottom bun, placing the potato patty on top, adding sliced onions and tomatoes, and finally, topping with the other half of the bun.

Notes

Ensure that potatoes are well-cooked without lumps for best texture. Adjust spices to taste and consider baking instead of frying for a healthier option.
