Description

A classic dish that brings warmth and comfort, perfect for cozy nights or during Passover.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup matzo meal
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp fresh dill (optional)
  • Carrots and celery (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the oil and water.
  2. Stir in the matzo meal, salt, pepper, and dill until combined.
  3. Refrigerate the mixture for about 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. In a pot, bring the chicken broth to a gentle simmer.
  5. Wet your hands and form the matzo mixture into balls about 1 inch in diameter.
  6. Carefully drop the balls into the simmering broth.
  7. Cover the pot and cook for about 30 minutes, until the matzo balls are cooked through.
  8. Serve hot, optionally with sliced carrots and celery.

Notes

For fluffier matzo balls, consider adding a little baking powder to the mixture. Make sure to chill the matzo mixture before cooking to help the balls hold their shape.
