Ingredients
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup matzo meal
- 4 large eggs
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp fresh dill (optional)
- Carrots and celery (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the oil and water.
- Stir in the matzo meal, salt, pepper, and dill until combined.
- Refrigerate the mixture for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- In a pot, bring the chicken broth to a gentle simmer.
- Wet your hands and form the matzo mixture into balls about 1 inch in diameter.
- Carefully drop the balls into the simmering broth.
- Cover the pot and cook for about 30 minutes, until the matzo balls are cooked through.
- Serve hot, optionally with sliced carrots and celery.
Notes
For fluffier matzo balls, consider adding a little baking powder to the mixture. Make sure to chill the matzo mixture before cooking to help the balls hold their shape.
