Description

This classic green bean casserole is creamy, crispy, and full of comforting flavor. Perfect for holidays or weeknight dinners!

Ingredients

4 cups green beans (fresh blanched, frozen, or canned)

1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1/2 cup milk or heavy cream

1 1/2 cups crispy fried onions (French’s or similar)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Optional: sautéed mushrooms, garlic, bacon, cracker topping

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

2. In a large bowl, combine the green beans, mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and optional cheese or extras.

3. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 baking dish and smooth the top.

4. Sprinkle about half of the fried onions on top.

5. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until bubbling around the edges.

6. Add remaining fried onions and bake for another 5–7 minutes until golden and crisp.

7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

You can prepare the casserole up to 2 days ahead—just add the topping before baking.

Make it from scratch using homemade mushroom sauce for extra flavor.

To make it vegan, use plant-based milk and vegan cream of mushroom soup, and top with fried shallots or breadcrumbs.
