Description

A comforting and hearty dish that allows you to prepare juicy Salisbury steaks effortlessly in your slow cooker.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef (85% lean)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined, but be careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties, about ¾ inch thick.
  3. Brown the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden (optional).
  4. Place the browned patties in the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, and ketchup, then pour over the patties. If using, sprinkle the sliced mushrooms on top.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  6. Mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry about 30 minutes before serving. Add this to the slow cooker to thicken the gravy, stirring gently.
  7. Serve the Salisbury steaks with the thickened gravy, garnished with fresh chopped parsley.

Notes

For a healthier twist, consider using ground turkey or chicken. This dish reheats wonderfully, so make extra for delicious lunches.
