Description
A comforting and hearty dish that allows you to prepare juicy Salisbury steaks effortlessly in your slow cooker.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (85% lean)
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
- 2 tablespoons ketchup (optional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, minced garlic, milk, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined, but be careful not to overwork the meat.
- Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties, about ¾ inch thick.
- Brown the patties in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden (optional).
- Place the browned patties in the slow cooker. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, and ketchup, then pour over the patties. If using, sprinkle the sliced mushrooms on top.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry about 30 minutes before serving. Add this to the slow cooker to thicken the gravy, stirring gently.
- Serve the Salisbury steaks with the thickened gravy, garnished with fresh chopped parsley.
