- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup garlic scapes, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated cheese (e.g. cheddar or parmesan)
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions

- Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the chopped garlic scapes and cheese.
- Add the milk gradually and mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
- Roll or pat the dough to about 1-inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish, if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm as a side or at brunch.
Notes
Keep the butter very cold to ensure a flaky texture. Don’t overmix the dough to prevent dense scones.
