Description

Delightful homemade churros that are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, served with a rich chocolate sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, plus more for frying
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup white sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix until evenly distributed and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine water, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in flour until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough into a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting to desired length with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Coat while warm in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. For the chocolate sauce, in a small saucepan over low heat, combine chopped dark chocolate and heavy cream. Stir until smooth.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or espresso powder to the cinnamon sugar mix. These churros are best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for 1-2 days.
