Description

A rich and chocolatey dessert that’s the perfect centerpiece for the holiday season, allowing for creativity and fun family involvement.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Chocolate ganache for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Once baked, let the cake cool slightly, then flip it onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar.
  8. Roll the cake with the towel while it’s still warm and let it cool completely.
  9. For the filling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  10. Unroll the cooled cake, spread the whipped cream evenly, and roll it back up without the towel.
  11. Place the log seam side down on a serving plate.
  12. Frost the log with chocolate ganache and use a fork to create bark patterns.
  13. Chill before serving and enjoy your festive dessert!

Notes

Use room temperature eggs and milk for a smoother batter. Dust the towel with powdered sugar to prevent sticking when rolling the cake. Let the cake cool completely before adding the filling to avoid melting the cream.
