Description
Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap is a beloved Korean rice bowl served in a hot stone bowl. It features a crispy rice base, colorful vegetables, tender beef bulgogi, and a flavorful gochujang sauce for a truly authentic taste.
Ingredients
For the Rice:
2 cups short-grain Korean rice (or Calrose)
2 1/4 cups water
For the Vegetables:
1 cup spinach, blanched and seasoned
1 cup bean sprouts, blanched and seasoned
1 cup julienned carrots, sautéed
1 cup zucchini, sautéed
1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sautéed
For the Beef Bulgogi:
300g thinly sliced beef ribeye
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp rice wine
For the Gochujang Sauce:
3 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp sesame oil
1 clove garlic, minced
Additional:
2 fried eggs
Sesame seeds, for garnish
Neutral oil, for stone bowl seasoning
Instructions
1. Cook rice according to package directions and keep warm.
2. Prepare each vegetable separately: blanch spinach and bean sprouts, season with sesame oil and salt; sauté carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms with a little oil until tender.
3. Marinate beef with soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and rice wine for at least 30 minutes, then stir-fry until cooked through.
4. Mix gochujang sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
5. Preheat dolsot (stone bowl) on medium heat, brush inside with oil.
6. Add cooked rice, pressing down slightly to form a base; arrange vegetables and beef neatly around the bowl.
7. Top with fried egg, drizzle with gochujang sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds.
8. Serve immediately, mixing all ingredients before eating to combine flavors and textures.
Notes
For vegetarian Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap, replace beef with grilled tofu or tempeh.
To get extra crispy rice, heat the dolsot for a few more minutes before adding toppings.
Adjust gochujang sauce sweetness and spice to taste.
