Description
A hearty and comforting casserole with the classic flavors of stuffed cabbage rolls, made easy in a slow cooker.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Layer half of the chopped cabbage in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Spread half of the meat mixture over the cabbage.
- Pour half of the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce over the meat mixture.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, meat mixture, and sauces.
- Cook on low for 360-480 minutes or high for 240-300 minutes until the meat is cooked and the rice is tender.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top before serving.
Notes
Can customize by adding different vegetables or using beans for a vegetarian version. For added flavor, sauté onions and garlic before mixing.
