Description

A hearty and comforting casserole with the classic flavors of stuffed cabbage rolls, made easy in a slow cooker.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Layer half of the chopped cabbage in the bottom of the crockpot.
  3. Spread half of the meat mixture over the cabbage.
  4. Pour half of the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce over the meat mixture.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage, meat mixture, and sauces.
  6. Cook on low for 360-480 minutes or high for 240-300 minutes until the meat is cooked and the rice is tender.
  7. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheese on top before serving.

Notes

Can customize by adding different vegetables or using beans for a vegetarian version. For added flavor, sauté onions and garlic before mixing.
