Description

Delicious corned beef brisket with a crispy crust, easily prepared in either an oven or a slow cooker.

Ingredients

  • Corned Beef Brisket (3-4 lbs)
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Brown Sugar
  • Garlic
  • Black Pepper
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Apple Juice or Cider
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Spice Packet

Instructions

  1. Remove the corned beef from its packaging and rinse it under cold running water to eliminate excess salt.
  2. Pat the meat dry with paper towels and crush the spice packet’s contents.
  3. Mix the crushed spices with minced garlic, brown sugar, fennel seeds, and black pepper.
  4. Spread Dijon mustard evenly over the fatty side of the brisket. Then, press the spice mixture into the mustard-coated brisket.
  5. For the oven method, preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Pour apple juice and cider vinegar into a roasting pan, place the brisket inside, and cover it tightly with foil. Bake for approximately 50 minutes per pound.
  6. For the slow cooker method, pour the apple juice and vinegar into the bottom of the slow cooker, place the beef brisket inside, and cook on the LOW setting for 6 to 8 hours.
  7. Once the meat is tender and fully cooked, transfer it to a foil-lined baking sheet. Turn the oven to broil and broil the brisket for 5-6 minutes, until it develops a dark, mahogany crust.
  8. Allow the meat to rest for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

Choose the right brisket for better flavor. Use fresh spices for maximum aroma and flavor. Avoid overcooking to maintain juiciness, and allow the meat to rest before slicing.
