Description

Delightful sweet rolls combining tart cranberries and bright orange zest, perfect for breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 packet rapid rise (or instant) yeast
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup butter, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 2 cups cranberries
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon clove
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon orange zest


Instructions

  1. Combine all cranberry filling ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir frequently while bringing to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, cook until cranberries burst (3-5 minutes), then simmer until thickened (10-15 minutes).
  3. Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl, warm milk, stir in yeast and let sit.
  4. Combine 3 cups flour with dry ingredients. Add yeast mixture and egg, mixing on medium-high speed until combined. Add orange zest.
  5. Switch to a dough hook, gradually add remaining flour, and beat for about 5 minutes.
  6. Mix together orange filling ingredients in a small bowl.
  7. Roll out dough on a floured surface. Spread orange filling, then spoon cranberry filling on top.
  8. Tightly roll into a log, seal edges, and cut into 1 1/2 inch sections.
  9. Place in a greased baking dish, cover, let rise for 1 hour.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-30 minutes until golden.
  11. Prepare the glaze by mixing melted butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar until smooth. Add orange juice and zest.
  12. Drizzle glaze over warm rolls. Enjoy!
