Delightful sweet rolls combining tart cranberries and bright orange zest, perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons salted butter
- 1 packet rapid rise (or instant) yeast
- 4 cups flour
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup butter, room temperature
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- 2 cups cranberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 orange, zested and juiced
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon clove
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1/2 tablespoon orange zest
Instructions
- Combine all cranberry filling ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir frequently while bringing to a boil.
- Once boiling, cook until cranberries burst (3-5 minutes), then simmer until thickened (10-15 minutes).
- Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl, warm milk, stir in yeast and let sit.
- Combine 3 cups flour with dry ingredients. Add yeast mixture and egg, mixing on medium-high speed until combined. Add orange zest.
- Switch to a dough hook, gradually add remaining flour, and beat for about 5 minutes.
- Mix together orange filling ingredients in a small bowl.
- Roll out dough on a floured surface. Spread orange filling, then spoon cranberry filling on top.
- Tightly roll into a log, seal edges, and cut into 1 1/2 inch sections.
- Place in a greased baking dish, cover, let rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20-30 minutes until golden.
- Prepare the glaze by mixing melted butter, milk, vanilla, and powdered sugar until smooth. Add orange juice and zest.
- Drizzle glaze over warm rolls. Enjoy!
