Description

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups Homemade (or store-bought) buttermilk
  • 4 cups Thinly sliced onions, halved and in rings
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp Fresh ground pepper
  • 4 cups Vegetable oil


Instructions

  1. Soak thinly sliced onion rings in buttermilk for at least 10 minutes.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and fresh ground pepper.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep-skillet to about 375°F.
  4. Dredge soaked onions in the flour mixture, coating them evenly.
  5. Fry the coated onions in small batches until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove fried onions from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Store in an airtight container or serve immediately.
