Description

Old-fashioned pancakes are a beloved breakfast staple, quick to prepare and perfect for a warm, comforting start to your day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (plus more for cooking)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla (if using) until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the skillet.
  5. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges appear set, about 2 minutes. Flip and cook for another 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with a pat of butter, maple syrup, or your favorite toppings.

Notes

For fluffy pancakes, don’t overmix the batter and ensure the skillet is properly preheated.
