Description

A creamy, cheesy, and comforting side dish that perfectly complements grilled proteins, bringing a touch of restaurant elegance to your dining table.

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour and whisk to form a paste.
  4. Gradually pour in the heavy cream, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add the salt, pepper, and nutmeg, stirring until combined.
  6. Incorporate the sliced potatoes into the sauce, ensuring they are adequately coated.
  7. Transfer the potatoes and sauce to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  8. After 60 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the top of the potatoes.
  9. Return to the oven, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider using different cheeses or adding herbs, bacon, or vegetables for additional flavor.
