Description

A delightful holiday dessert resembling a Yule log, symbolizing warmth and cheer for festive gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for filling)
  • Chocolate ganache (for decoration)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Berries or holly leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cake springs back when touched.
  5. While hot, roll the cake in the parchment as you would a jelly roll and let it cool.
  6. For the filling, whip together heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form. Unroll the cooled cake, spread filling, then re-roll.
  7. Frost the rolled cake with chocolate ganache and decorate as desired. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with berries or holly for a festive touch.

Notes

Store any leftover cake in the refrigerator, wrapped in plastic wrap for up to three days. For best results, avoid adding ganache until ready to serve.
