A simple, hands-off dessert featuring juicy cherry filling under a golden, buttery cake crust.
Ingredients
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Dump the entire can of cherry pie filling into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the cherry filling without stirring.
- Melt the butter and pour it evenly over the cake mix.
- If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top before placing the dish in the oven.
- Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly. Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a less sweet version, use reduced sugar pie filling or adjust with oats. Allow cake to rest before serving for cleaner slices.
