Description

A delightful, simple breakfast combining creamy cheese and an egg on crispy, toasted bread.


Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup (2 oz) grated cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or gruyere)
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)


Instructions

  1. Lightly toast the bread or broil for 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Adjust the cooking rack if using a toaster oven.
  3. Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat with a fork until combined.
  4. Mix in the cheese and fresh herbs, adding salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Spread the egg and cheese mixture over the bread, covering to the crusts. Sprinkle with cayenne if desired.
  6. Bake for about 10 to 12 minutes until the egg and cheese mixture is puffed and brown.
  7. For air fryer, preheat to 340°F, spread the mixture on untoasted bread, then air fry at 340°F for 8 to 10 minutes.
