Description

Delightful cookies featuring festive colors and a minty flavor, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1 large egg
  • Red and green colored sugar (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture until well combined.
  6. Divide the dough in half; dye one half red with food coloring.
  7. Take a small piece of each dough (red and white), roll into thin ropes, and twist together to form candy cane shapes.
  8. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Sprinkle with colored sugar.
  10. Bake for 9-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a stronger mint flavor, you can increase the peppermint extract slightly. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
