Description
A delightful German chocolate cake layered with whipped cream and tart cherries, perfect for any celebration.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 jar (24 oz) sour cherries, drained
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in their pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate, spread half of the whipped cream over it, and top with half of the cherries.
- Place the second cake layer on top, then spread the remaining whipped cream and top with the rest of the cherries.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings, slice, and serve!
Notes
Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor. Do not skip the boiling water as it enhances the cake’s moisture.
