Description
A delicious dish that combines the comforting flavors of classic French toast with the sweet and tangy goodness of mixed berries, perfect for serving a crowd.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of bread, cubed
- 6 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Place the cubed bread in a greased baking dish and pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are well coated.
- Fold in the mixed berries, distributing them evenly throughout the bread mixture.
- Cover the dish and let it sit for about 30 minutes, or refrigerate overnight to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Using slightly stale bread results in a fluffier texture. You can also experiment with different berries or add a crunch topping before baking.
