Description

A traditional Italian Bolognese sauce made with ground beef and pork, slow-cooked with fresh vegetables and herbs for a rich, comforting flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup milk
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, and celery; sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, ensuring it does not burn.
  3. Add the ground beef and ground pork; cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  4. Pour in the red wine (if using) and allow it to reduce for about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Reduce heat to low and let it cook for at least 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Stir in the milk and simmer for another 30 minutes.
  8. Serve over cooked pasta of your choice and garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute meat with mushrooms and lentils. Fresh herbs enhance the flavor.
