Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups diced apples
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then mix in the milk and vanilla.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes on each side.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Use crisp, tart-sweet apples for the best texture. For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
